It’s been a while since RES graced the stages of NYC for a solo set. After a year plus of dates with Idle Warship and small sets at festivals, Res returned to NYC at the Rockwood Music Hall for a laser focused 60 minute set that covered her catalogue quite well.
Opening up with a new song called “Natural Disaster” Res hit the stage ready to experiment a bit. Songs from “How I Do” were well represented while Res also gave us a taste of what’s to come. While no songs from “Black Girls Rock” made their way into the mix, Res dipped into some rare gems like “700 Mile Situation” and the unreleased Pharrell Williams assisted “You Know What”. “Rhiannon” a track from her upcoming EP Refried Mac that hasn’t been played live much also got a showing.
Res was in great voice and mood. The banter on stage was at times humorous and then informative. Res spoke about certain songs at length and debuted a brand new song “Hollow” and “Longtime”. She closed out the set with classics “Ice King” and “They Say Vision”. With only one official release under her belt it’s amazing to see how much material Res has to work with. If you don’t know beyond “How I Do”, do some homework and make sure to catch the next show.
